Kundapur, Apr 1: In a surprising development, water started oozing out from below the earth in the agricultural field belonging to Laxmi Mogaveera at Yelluhaklu within Japti village in the taluk. This phenomenon was witnessed on Tuesday March 31 after untimely rain that drenched the taluk.

Yelluhaklu has about ten acres of paddy field, and at about 6 am on Tuesday, sudden rain had made water to stand in these fields. Like others, Laxmi Mogaveera's field also got rain, but strangely, bubbles began to rise out of the earth's surface. Passersby noticed this phenomenon and were wonder-struck. The people also noticed that the force of the water increased as the area where bubbles were seen was dug deeper. After the news spread, hundreds of people rushed to the spot to see this 'miracle'.

It was however, noted that Laxmi's field is located at a lower level than the fields surrounding it. It is common for rats to dig holes to feast on paddy remaining in the fields after harvesting. Possibly, rats would have dug holes in Laxmi's field also, and these holes would have been dug in such a way so as to connect surrounding fields as the rats go searching for food. After the harvest, the openings to these holes would have been sealed because of the movement of people and cattle. Water from fields located at upper level probably flowed through these holes. Initially, as the openings were sealed with mud, water would have oozed out in the form of bubbles, it is now being guessed. When these areas were dug, water got an opportunity to move faster from upper levels, it is said.

Whatever be the reason, the field of Laxmi Mogaveera provided an interesting sight to scores of people who were seen watching the proceedings with surprise. Water continued to spring out at considerable speed even till Tuesday evening.
