Kasargod: Speeding mini lorry kills child, locals chase, catch driver

Kasargod, Apr 1: In a tragic incident, a three-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a mini lorry while crossing the road with her aunt near Pallikere here on Wednesday April 1 evening.

Fathimath Shazia (3), daughter of Abdul Khader, died in the accident.

The accident took place when Shazia was returning home from school after participating in a programme. She was accompanied by her aunt Rabia.

While they were crossing the road, a speeding mini lorry hit Shazia and sped away without stopping. The locals who witnessed the accident chased the vehicle and caught hold of the driver. They then handed him over to the police.

The driver of the mini lorry, identified as Abdul Kareem (34), has been arrested.

Shazia's father Abdul Khader is a businessman in the Gulf. He is on his way to hometown, family sources said.

Bekal police have registered a case.

    Issuing driving licence to kill the people on roads. RTO is sole responsible without evaluating the ability of drivers. Very painful incident. May the child soul rest in peace.

    Hit and Run... This is a unpardonable crime. Speeding vehicles specially buses are a daily sight in D.K. In this case instead of stopping the vehicle the driver tried to escape.

    What sad home coming for Abdul Khader is on his way to his home town.

    I offer my sincerest condolences to the members of the bereaved family.

    Look at the face of child,how sad.
    Now more and more youngsters are showing up their arrogant behavior on road. New stunt is started by motor bikers. They do wheeling on middle of the road. Underage riders are carrying friends on bikes and speeding.
    Many Parents let their little children to go to school by themselves. They stand on the divider to cross the road and no one lets them to cross.
    Grown up People walk on side of the road with Child walking on right side, on edge of the road. Many a times I stop and request the Person to hold the little Child on left side.
    Parents please be understanding that speeding biker or Car may hit your little child and kill on spot.
    It happened close to Kankanady Police Station some time back.
    I also request the Police Commissioner Mr Murugan and DC Mr Ibrahim to to make a rule that no Child under 5 years should walk or Cross the road by themselves without grown up escorting them.
    Now all readers are sad to see the little face of a dead Child. Now come forward to help.
