M'luru: Child safety workshop held at Govt Primary School Kodikal

Mangaluru, Apr 1: ‘Jagriti’ a child safety workshop and child self defence techniques demonstration was organized by the students of the Department of Mass Communication, St Aloysius College on April 1 at Govt Primary School Kodikal.

The child safety awareness programme was conducted in collaboration with the Mangalore based NGO, Inchara Foundation (R) and Department of MSW, St Aloysius College, Mangalore.

Preetam Rodrigues of Inchara Foundation along with his team members interacted with the school children and gave insights about child safety. With an experience of conducting awareness programme, ‘Project Angel’ for more than 2,500 children across Mangaluru, Preetam and team successfully conducted child safety awareness class for students of 6th, 7th and 8th standards of Dakshina Kannada District Higher Primary school Kodikal.

During the workshop, he spoke about how alertness can tackle any problem in many situations. A video presentation was also shown to enhance the understanding of children on different safety measures that was elaborated during the workshop.

In continuation to the prior session, a self defence demonstration was performed by Kartik Kateel also known as ‘Mangalore Ekalavya’, ‘Stunt Ekalavya’ who has carried his 123rd Swarksha- Self Defence Technique for the school girls. He made them witness various techniques that one can do to defend oneself. In an interactive session, volunteers from the audience also got a chance to try out some of their self defence moves.

Kartik Kateel has organised self defence programme for more than 30,000 girls and women across the state.

The department of Mass Communication of St Aloysius College Mangaluru has been supportive in organising various programmes to empower and safeguard the society from various anticipatory evils.

In the wake of multiple incidents that have happened to children in Mangaluru, the workshop Jagriti was organised to empower them and confront any threatening situations.
