Udupi, Apr1: Former Union Minister and MP Oscar Fernandes visited the newly constructed Kaup gram panchayat building office and discussed various development projects on Tuesday, March 31.

During his visit, an appeal was submitted to him by the gram panchayat requesting him for grants which will enable free computer education to youths in the gram panchayat.

Kaup gram panchayat president, Usha Shenoy, former president Yogish Rai, gram panchayat members Anil Kumar, Lava Karkera, development official Sunder Prabhu, KPCC secretary M A Gafoor, Kaup block Congress president Navinchandra Shetty, party leaders Abdul Azeez, H Abdulla, Vishwas Ameen, Navin N Shetty, Keshav Hejmady, Devaraj Kotian, Ameer Kaup, Mohammed Sadik, former Taluk panchayat member Jagadish Acharya and others were present.

Workshop on Kotpa Law in Kaup: 

Speaking in the workshop on the ban of drugs and smoking, Dr John, official of the Institute of Public Health said, “The use of drugs and smoking is completely banned in public places and for that the effective implementation, Kotpa Law is necessary”.

Speaking at the Kaup Veerabhadra temple hall, he spoke on ways to bring about the ban on drugs and smoking in Kaup, Shirva and Padubidri police station limits.

He explained about Kotpa which was brought into force in 2003 regarding ill effects of production of tobacco products and their use.

Villagers oppose lack of explanation regarding stone crusher unit:

The Majoor gram panchayat meeting was held at gram panchayat hall on Tuesday, March 31. Gram panchayat president, Jayashree presided over the meeting. Srikanth Ghatke was the Nodal officer. Vice president Amrathakshi Shetty, grama panchayat members and officials of different departments were present.

During the meeting, villagers alleged that there has been corruption at Brahmaragundi work and the work is conducted in unscientific manner. The concerned officials were purposely ignoring the inquiries; they further demanded an explanation about the works.

Replying to the allegations, engineering department official Janardhan said that the matter is brought to the notice of senior officials and it will be sorted out soon.

Majooru gram panchayat development official Pratap Chandra Shetty welcomed and compered the programme. Secretary Seetha T read the report and proposed vote of thanks.
