Iran, world powers reach 'encouraging' n-deal: Russia

Moscow, April 3 (IANS): Iran and six major world powers have reached a promising nuclear agreement at their talks in the Swiss city of Lausanne and the chances for the final deal are very high, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

"This was a team work of the six international negotiators, the EU (European Union) high representative and, of course, the Iranian side," TASS news agency quoted Lavrov as saying, adding that these were truly "marathon talks" and their outcome was "encouraging".

"This is a political framework agreement defining the key solutions on the most pressing problems -- enrichment, scientific and research programme of the Islamic Republic of Iran, transparency issues and the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) control over the implementation of what has been agreed," Lavrov said.

"This is in exchange for lifting of sanctions," the foreign minister said.

Lavrov said these were "the key components" to be translated into action. To this aim, experts would combine efforts to "introduce a full-fledged and thorough document by June 30 this year detailing Iran’s actions and how these sanctions will be lifted", he said.

"I’m sure that during this work. the deputy foreign ministers and the ministers of the six powers and Iran will have an opportunity to meet not once and control how this work is under way to necessarily complete it," Lavrov said.

"The chances for this are very good," he stressed.

After over a week of talks on Iran’s nuclear programme in Lausanne, the P5 1 group of world powers -- the US, Britain, Russia, China, France plus Germany -- and Iran reached crucial agreements on Thursday that would form the basis for a future comprehensive deal.

The IAEA was ready to start verifying Iran’s nuclear deal with the six world powers after it was finalized, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said.
