Mangaluru, Apr 4: Bondel Laughter Club on Saturday April 4 laughed off to a fresh start at a new venue – the yet to be named ten-acre virgin maidan in the midst of the government housing colony at Bondel.

Addressing the participants after inaugurating the programme, Dr Ramachandra Rao, a leading local family physician, said that the new venue should give fresh impetus to the Laughter Club. He said that he has closely followed the progress and setbacks of this club which has been nomadic, shifting from place to place, and hoped that it will now be firmly rooted on this maidan.

Dr Ramachandra said that John Monteiro, the founder-promoter of Bondel Laughter Club, has been involved in laughter clubs for the last 25 years – first in Mumbai and for the last 12 years in Bondel. "He has very committed associates who have been anchoring the sessions in his absence. In this club there are no officials; anybody can become the anchor for any day. There is no membership register or fees," he said.

Continuing, Dr Ramachandra said: "Laughter has many benefits in terms of mental and physical health. That is why the laughter club culture is fast expanding all over the world. I invite you take advantage of Bondel Laughter Club’s daily sessions and promote your well-being. They say that laughter is the best medicine. With so many of you attending this laughter club session and more joining in the coming days, this laughter club may reduce my patients. Even so, I have great pleasure in inaugurating this new venue and wishing Bondel Laughter Club the very best."

Welcoming the participants, John Monteiro said that the grounds where the Bondel Laughter Club functioned shrank through encroachments or were acquired by builders. This 10-acre maidan in the midst of the Government Housing Colony has been lying waste for the last several years. He said that currently the maiden is being eyed for a cricket stadium. The way things have been going, this 120-crore public asset is going to be undeveloped for many years to come. However, he said, efforts would be made to have a 200-standee Laughter dome so that the Club can function even during monsoons.

I am thankful for the lusty responses to the coverage of Bondel Laughter Club shifting its venue.
I had once gone to Gandhi Park to observe the laughter session there. It seemed an extension of a closely-knit group of middle/upper class residents who are united also in keeping their area clean . I admire the laughter group there for its tenacity in keeping sessions going with its captive group. I also found that that the approach a bit formal. I saw the anchor pulling up a participant for the way he had placed his feet.
It is not artificial laugh as some respondents have said. There is a method in this madness. One does not get into the laughter mode strait away and there is certain process. In Bondel Laughter Club sessions, the laughter mode is reached through a foreplay mode comprising 17 items, mainly physical exercises lasting 7 minutes. This is followed by laughter mode with 11 sequences and concluded with 7 self-esteem declarations. So, the laughter is not artificial but a spontaneous eruption by interacting with participants, specially with neibhours. Thos interested may watch an ametuer video of a Bondel Laughter Club session from UTube/Google by keying in “Laughter Club Bondel” or by typing my name and clicking on the first item – vimeo.
I am sorry about not getting response to smiles or getting in return stares. Persist with your smiles and the stares might melt. I have a suggestion in this respect. When we walk, say in Kadri Park, we walk behind those who are in front of us and we get to see the backsides of walkers. Supposing at the end of one round we turn round and reverse our walking mode, we will see faces of people. Smile and see – you might end up with some new friends.
As for ’pegs’, whatever it means, laughter club sessions are normally conducted in the morning and on empty stomach. Welcome to Bondel Laughter Club starting at 6.30 and ending at 6.50 daily –except Sundays and public holiday when people may want to sleep longer

While walking in the park, we come across many people, old, young, middle-aged etc. one in 10 give a smile. If I smile, they just stare at me. I have watched the ants who are saying hello to the fellow ants, you also just watch.
We need laughter clubs. At least we laugh for a little while.

Endorsing Rudolf. First, teach to learn them to give a spontaneous smile if not flashing smile to greet your neighbor, office staff, regular walker who meets you everyday that too in the morning. You can fill your soul with unnatural laughs....You still lack something folk....

See Stress is due to many things...
    1. A Torrid Boss.
    2. A Horrible Wife/ Husband
    3. A Demanding Mother in law.
    4. A Cranky Father in law.
    And all such persons...
Now to de stress in such conditions...
In all such clubs instead of laughing from your 'belly button' and all that...
Get one of the members to act as in order(described above)
    1.. Your Boss.
    2. Your Wife/Husband.
    3. Your M I L
    4. Your F I L
and then let loose 'solid expletives' at them which otherwise you would not even have dreamt of.
In short vomit everything at their face. See 'how relaxed' you will feel then!!
    Just suggesting..O.k.
What this 'laughter club' and all?
Try my dose. it will 'relax you' fully till you reach home again at
    least.
    Is it not?

Many people don't laugh because they have dental problem! Dental clinics should take initiative & Sponsor such events by promoting their clinic!!
And people should laugh at stress, religion, politics, status, health, relationships...etc!!!

    Nice.
I meet few members of laughing club who do regular laughing in Gandhi Park six days a week in early morning hours.Though I meet every day them while I take a brisk walk, they do not smile at me.
I dont think artificial laughing for twenty minutes will make man free of stress unless he learns to smile at people and greet them when he sees every day.
