Media Release

Kuwait, Apr 5: Kuwait Kannada Koota (KKK) held its annual sports day on Friday March 27 at Al-Sahel Sports Club in Abu-Halifa, Kuwait.

All the members gathered at Al-Sahel sports club and started off the annual sports day with a ‘Walkathon’ session as a prelude to warm up for the various sports events to follow. After the ‘Walkathon’ and light breakfast, the president of the Koota, Sudhir Shenoy declared open the annual sports meet.

Every year KKK conducts this out-door sports day, where members and especially children enjoy this healthy outing and sports event. The members and children of the Koota are divided into four houses named after the four rivers in Karnataka Sharavathi, Netravathi, Hemavathi and Cauvery. The sports events include individual track events, games and as well as intra-house games.

The sports committee headed by Ram Kumar organized and conducted all the sports events in a very smooth manner. The entire sports committee came out with an innovative idea of donning a T-Shirt with KKK logo inscribed and showing they were from sports committee, organizing and conducting the sports events for the day. All the members appreciated this innovative style from the sports committee.

All the members, starting from a toddler to aged members, had one or the other games to play. For toddler to 6 years, they had frog race and ‘bucketing the ball’. Potato race, lemon & spoon race for children from 6th to 10th standard boys and girls, running race for children from 2-6th standard and Football for boys from 6th to 10th Standard were held. The boys were divided into groups namely Hoysala and Chalukya (Names of Kings from Karnataka) where Hoysala boys won the tournament. There was throw ball game for the ladies and volleyball game for men played between intra houses. In throw ball, Hemavathi house was the winner and in volleyball, Sharavathi house emerged as winners.

A new game was introduced for adults and children i.e ‘Hop & Catch’ (known as “Kuntata” in Kannada). It became an instant success among the members. Cauvery house took the credit as winner in this game. After the lunch, members enjoyed a game of ‘Lagori’ and Sharavathi house was declared as the winners.

In all, members and children enjoyed a memorable whole day outing with nice lunch served by Udayam restaurant. To raise the morale of children and to make sure that these children remember KKK as they grow up, individual cups were presented to all the winners and runners among the children.
