Mangaluru: 260th Wilfy Nite at Bajpe weaves musical magic

Mangaluru, Apr 5: It was a memorable Easter treat for Konkani music lovers as ICYM Bajpe unit organized the 260th Wilfy Nite in memory of Konkani legend the late Wilfy Rebimbus at St Joseph church grounds at Bajpe here on Sunday April 5.

Parish priest of Bajpe church Fr Leo William Lobo, assistant parish priest Fr Praveen D'Souza, Meena Rebimbus, Vishwas Rebimbus, CEO of RedRocks Prashant Rasquinha, Praveen Tauro of daijiworld.com, and others were the guests.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Leo Lobo said, "I congratualte ICYM on organizing the 260th Wilfy Nite on the occasion of Easter. This programme is being organized for a good cause to provide education for the poor, so it needs to be applauded and supported. I thank all the people responsible for making this event a successful one."

Meena Rebimbus, wife of the late Wilfy Rebimbus, was honoured by Fr Leo on the occasion. She expressed her gratitude by singing a 'Dev Borem Korum' song. Vishwas Rebimbus thanked everyone for their support.

The musical evening began with the song 'Dev Boro Dees Divndi' by Meena and Vishwas Rebimbus. Other singers like Babita Pinto, Ivan Sequeira, Prem, Claud D'Souza and others enthralled the gathering with beautiful renditions of evergreen songs. Altogether, the audience were treated to 16 songs of different genres during the course of the evening.

Team Me-Mo-Ri and added a generous dose of humour with five skits during the intervals. Leslie Rego together with Dolla Mangalore also had the audience in splits with short humourous performances.

Master compere Leslie Rego conducted the musical part of the nite  in his usual style and wit while the stage programme  was beautifully compeered by  Viola Pinto and Abigail.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Ruben D'souza, president of ICYM Bajpe.

Dance group Thunder Guys and Alwyn Bajpe and group performed scintillating dances.

A large crowd of over a thousand enjoyed the evening and revelled in the musical treat.

    I still remeber my old days associated with our PYO (Parish Youth Organization) now it is ICYM. Really those were the days which still i consider golden era of my life...This is the stage which gave platform for my talent towards drama.. Remy and me always duo and used rehearsal used to do in pyar ka mandir... Those days never will come back in my life... I am missing those great moments....

    Wilfy was very talented singer and lyrics of high standard with humorous words in his songs. Although i am not knowing the konkani language I attend his musical night forty years back and remember few word of his song Atha pata pata mulgi jali aat...... I am happy that youths of today still remember him and his talents.
