Puttur, Apr 6: Uppinangadi police have arrested a person who was involved in a theft of ATM card and withdrawal of Rs 90,000 using the stolen ATM card.

Mallesha, originally from Raichur, is the person arrested. Police arrested him in Mangaluru city.

Mallesha worked for Nagegowda in Periyadka near Uppinangadi. He stole the ATM card belonging to Nagegowda’s wife and disappeared from the house a week before. A police complaint was lodged at Uppinangadi police station about the theft of the ATM card. Later it was learnt that Mallesha also withdrew cash of Rs 90,000 using the stolen ATM card.

The team led by Uppinangadi police sub inspector Jagadish Reddy tracked Mallesha through the location of his mobile phone and found him in a room in a lodge in Mangaluru. Mallesha was arrested immediately.

Generally it is unwise to keep 90K in SB account, moreover, who provided him the Pin Code, and if the ATM is stolen, why the account was not blocked. Seems rather surprising.

The woman entrepreneur had found it difficult to memorize the PIN and, she had, as an easy way out, noted it down on the other side of the card. That gave Mallesh Rs 90,000 on a golden platter.

This is the first case where the police could arrest the person for misusing the ATM card.
But there are hundreds of such complaint with Police where the Crooks ask for ATM card number and PIN under some pretext from gullible cardholder and withdraw money fraudulently. All such cases have been put in cold storage by Police, as all these thugs are from distant U.P, Bihar and Jharkhand the police of Karnataka never bother to go to north India and catch them.
