Caste census in State: 1.26 cr households, 1.3 lakh surveyors

Bengaluru, Apr 7 (DHNS): As many as 1.3 lakh surveyors will conduct the caste census involving 1.26 crore households across the State from April 11.

Addressing reporters on Monday, chairperson of the Karnataka State Backward Class Commission, H Kantharaj, said the census form would cover 55 questions. While the Scheduled Castes and Tribes have been placed in columns B and C, respectively, other castes have been put in column A.

The exercise, concluding on April 30, will cover the socio-economic and educational status of the citizens of Karnataka.

“It is not mandatory to answer all the questions in the census form, but it is the residents’ duty to do so. People who provide false information about caste, based on bogus certificates, could face serious action,” said Kantharaj.

He said the government improved upon the existing list every 10 years so that it could formulate welfare policies better. He, however, clarified that the socio-economic census was not meant to restrict the legitimate benefits to the backward communities. He ruled out the possibility of including any new community in the category of ‘untouchables’. “The government has taken various steps to eradicate intouchability,” Kantharaj said.

20 minutes at each house

Kantharaj said the enumerators had been trained to complete the census in 20 minutes in each house.

“Previously, the survey would take at least 40 minutes. Now, most people have enough data and records with them and that will make it easy for the enumerators to get the desired information quickly,” said Kantharaj.

In the coming caste census from 11-04-2015 you can your Religion in the Coloum No. 5 as Buddhist. Buddha never believed in any soul. He said all are equal while we have in this country 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th rate souls and the Panchamas (Untouchables) have been branded as having no souls so that all sorts of torchures and ill treatment meted out to them. All those who feel that they are equals must fearlessly as Buddhists. If that is done Buddhism will be the Number One religion of the world.

The persons responsible have brought the book comprising the information about how to fill the form and other things.......but sad is that they still don't know the meaning of "CONVENT" since under the column 'type of school' is given as convent.
Let us stop using the word convent which has the meaning 'building occupied by a community of nuns' Using this word unnecessarily regarding the schools matters speaks of our ignorance.

Casteism is deep rooted and will exist in the society. Upper castes and Middle caste wouldn't want to mingle with low caste people. It is unfortunate that SC/ST qre used by the upper castes to target minorities.Lower caste should be brought into the main stream of the society having said that some of the draconian laws favouring SC/ST should he removed.

Kudos, We are in 21 century and think that we are developing nation and still behind this Religion, Cast, Creed. Why can't we keep Religion/faith ones private and within 4 walls. all political parties are using this as weapon to get vote bank. Is Religion is mandatory to be shown in papers. What it matters to govt which religion you practice. Govt has to serve the human kind not religion. Just like British used Religion to rule the country.
