Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (RJP)

Karkala, Apr 7: A high school teacher was killed on the spot in a car-bike collision at Panchanabettu cross here on Monday April 6.

The deceased, Shankar Acharya (32), was working as a physical education teacher at Hirgana government high school near Karkala.

Shankar Acharya had gone to Udupi to bring some sports equipment after finishing his SSLC exam duties at Bailoor. A car going towards Udupi collided with his bike at Panchanabettu cross, killing him instantly.

The impact of the accident was so severe that the deceased could only be identified after people found the identity card on his clothes.

Shankar, originally from Yermal, had made Jarkala his home. Two years back he had shifted to Hirgana school after a stint in Mandya.

He was a popular teacher, a national-level athlete, social worker and a drama artiste.

He is survived by wife who is a teacher at Ajekar and a 5-month-old daughter.

Very bad reporting. Why is the person who murdered the teacher's name is missing in this report? Its disturbing that people and reporters have decided to turn a blind eye.

A very very sad episode in the life and history of a good teacher and a physical director. Any amount of caution is not adequate these days.

I offer my sincere condolences to the bereaved wife and child.

Police and RTO have failed to enforce laws. In Karkal city speed limit is 30 KM. But some people are racing their vehicle at 80 KM. Many of speed breaker removed during asphalting recently and never replaced. I have brought same to the attention of Municipality and Corp orators long back, but no action taken so far. More over large number of students driving vehicles without proper documents and licenses. RTO should immediate swing in to action. Otherwise such instances and accidents bound to increase manifold in the years to come.
