Kasargod, Apr 7: In a tragic incident, a woman died after she was hit by a train at Kumble railway station here on Tuesday April 7.

The deceased, Lavina Priya Rodrigues (30), was the daughter of Louis and Celine Rodrigues, residents of Periadka, Bela.

She was employed in Manjeshwar block panchayat office. Family sources said that she usually travelled by bus, but on Tuesday for some reason she had to take a train to reach her workplace.

At the Kumble railway station, she was standing at platform number one, where a Kannur train had stopped. The Chervathur-Mangaluru train, which she was supposed to take, was to come on platform number two.

When she saw the Chervathur-Mangaluru train arriving on platform 2, she tried to cross the railway track and while climbing on to platform 2, she was hit by the train, eyewitnesses said.

The incident took place in the presence of scores of people who were at the station. Some said that while climbing the platform, her bag got stuck in the track which led to the accident. However, this information could not be confirmed.

Lavina had got married about six years ago to Sunil D'Souza from Puttur, Karnataka. Sunil died about two years ago, and since then she had been living with her parents at Bela. She has a young son named Ryonson, and a brother who works as electrician.

The last rites will be held at Our Lady of Dolours Church, Bela at 4.30 pm on Tuesday.

@gurudath Over bridge is there. As trains are rare ppl tend to cross the track. 10 yr back I had seen a clg grl who was about to be hit as her burkha didnt allow her to climb up quickly..another grl had pulled up her smartly...

Aila area track, Ture it has curves. Once in mid 2004,I was in train 2wrds Mlr..2 men were walking towards south on the other track somewhere near Aila..A track was approaching them from Mlr side i.e their backside. They thought the horn is from our train. We all shouted and tried to alert them.By the time one of them turned back train hit him. Other one jup ed off the track.

parents especially single parent pls. take care of yourselves since your children are dependent on you in their young age. this fast life we are always tempted to take shortcuts 5-10 mins here and there wont make much difference, but think of the children we leave at home. they are waiting for us and nobody can fill the gap of loving parents.

I have started doubting the existence of God! Even if he exists, he must be a sadist.

    Henry Misquith,
I dont know what you mean by sick mentality in reply to my comment. I was just thinking about the boy Ryonson who lost his father two years ago and now the mother. What wrong the kid has done to undergo such pains in this age? Thats why i said the God must be a sadist.
