Three days after rescue, Bhatkal family's flat in Yemen bombed

Daijiworld Media Network - Bhatkal

Bhatkal, Apr 7: Mohammed Yunus Shabandri and his family, who returned from Aden, Yemen last week, have had a providential escape. Less than three days after they returned to their hometown Bhatkal, their flat in Aden was struck by a missile in the ongoing strife.

Yunus, his wife and three children returned to India on Thursday April 2 night after being rescued from Yemen, and were reunited with their families the next morning.

Just three days later, on Sunday April 5, a missile struck their flat. The impact of the strike was so severe that their flat was engulfed in flames and the balcony was completely shattered.

Speaking to reporters, Yunus termed the incident a 'lucky escape' for him and his family.

"It was a lucky escape for us. When I was in Aden, our lives were in danger. There were daily fights on the streets between the locals and the government forces. We were scared to step out of the house. Even small children on streets had guns in their pockets. The fight between rebels and armed forces continued even after we left the place," he said.

"As soon as the unrest began, we informed the Indian embassy and Indian government came to our rescue," he added.

He expressed gratitude to god and also thanked the Indian government for timely help and the Indian media for its support in bringing him and many other stranded Indians back home from the war zone.

Mr. Guru : Mr. V.k. Singh MOS is in Djibouti and is doing commendable Job, but please remember he is not in War zone. The war is going on in Yemen. Djibouti is a Independent Nation which has a French and US Naval air base, is located on the north-east coast of Africa and is separated from Yemen by a narrow strait, the Bab-El-Mandeb.
No doubt Government is doing very good job. But by stating that India is doing for this first time is wrong. Why are you forgetting the good things done by earlier governments in evacuating Indian Nationals specially Kuwait where almost 1,70,000 Indians were there when Saddam Hussain Conquered Kuwait on 2nd August 1990. Kuwait was also war zone when the late I.K. Gujral was foreign Minister of Cabinet Rank in 1990 in Janatha Dal Government and later become Prime Minister.

Diplomacy was done in the Gulf war and other times also. Mr. I.K Gujral the then Foreign minister in V.P. Singh Government had flown to Bagdad met Saddam Hussein and left to Kuwait bringing some Indians in Air force plane and in other two escort plane. In Kuwait and Iraq it was no fly zone after the Kuwait annexation so they had to use the Amman airport of Jordan. Only through diplomacy they got permission to lift Indians from Kuwait wherein the same Air port was used by US allies for Gulf War Preparations.
Even other cases of evacuation Navy have entered the foreign waters after having diplomacy by the previous governments. INS Mumbai, INS Betwa and INS Brahmaputra and oil tanker INS Shakti are Indian navy ship and picking up the Indians they have do dock in Foreign sea ports. Do anybody think Indian Navy can just dock in foreign ports without diplomacy?

Thank you for the details, anyways lets credit Obama and Vatican for praying to Jesus for the safe return of Indians.

Note: VK singh MOS for home affairs is the only minister who was in war zone to see the rescue operations.. No white peace organisation dared to enter Yemen

Guruji, your comment on Vatican praying to Jesus is uncalled for at this instance.
Also, note that V.K.Singh did not land in Yemen but he was overseeing the evacuations based in Djibouti.

    Mr. Shankar and others.
For information: The Gulf no Indian likes to stay. Everybody goes to gulf including Yemen for their livelihood and send lot of money and save lot of Foreign exchange to our country. The remittance in 2013-14 to India was 70 Billion US$. A 2012 study, by Reserve Bank of India revealed 30.8% of total foreign remittances were from West Asia. We have to think about the contribution done to our Economy. Secondly most of gulf Indians there one way ticket is with our Governments i.e. Immigration while leaving India.
Once and Indian enters Gulf for employment, 95 % passports of them have to be given to the employers custody or in other term confiscated .Even if you want to leave you are at the mercy of the employer and passport is not given. They generally give the passport during the vacation to go to home town and some are so cruel they give the passport during check in - in the Airport. Indians living in Yemen well in advance to leave the country and come back to India is out of question as the Indians leaving there are in the mercy of the employers (Arabs), as passport is not given to them. How without passport anybody can come out of the country. Most of them who have come back now have no passport in their hand.

you think the navy can just go to any country and dock the ships and rescue people? Are you really that dumb? Without the excellent diplomacy and statesmanship that Mr. Modi has been potraying, docking of the ships chodo, the navy wouldn't have been able to move from the Indian waters. So get your facts right before you start blabbering or just sthu!

For Kind information of people who know little about the past Governments rescue operations. How easily people forget the events and praise only the current facts.

Form 3 August to 11 October 1990 – Air India entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the most people evacuated by a civil airliner. Over 111,000 people were evacuated from Amman to Mumbai – a distance of 4,117 km, by operating 488 flights in association with Indian Airlines, from 13 August to 11 October 1990 – lasting 59 days. The operation was carried out during Persian Gulf War in 1990 to evacuate Indian expatriates from Kuwait and Iraq. Some of people were directly airlifted from Bagdad by our Air force.

This was not the only successful evacuation and heroic act by the Indian government. “Operation Sukoon” in 2006 by the Indian Navy was another great operation to evacuate Indian, Sri Lankan and Nepalese nationals, as well as Lebanese nationals with Indian spouses, from the conflict zone during the 2006 Lebanon War. Four naval ships – INS Mumbai, INS Betwa and INS Brahmaputra and oil tanker INS Shakti – uted the successful operation.

Another successful evacuation “Operation Blossom” took place in 2011 when mass protests against the military broke out in Libya. Around 8,000 Indians were evacuated with help from Indian Navy’s INS Jalashwa (an amphibious transport dock ship) and a destroyer INS Mysore – both these ships together could carry around 1,200 people at one go – and the fleet tanker the INS Aditya.

The Indian government has time and again proved that it leaves no stone unturned in bringing back its people safely to the country in times of distress anywhere in the world

Incase if it were to be a Congress Govt. the Indians should have been rescued proactively months before the Blast. But, the present Govt. brought them just before 3 days the blast on Shabandri's flat. Present Govt. should learn one thing that, waiting for the last moment, doesn't bring luck always. If families of these victims had not pressurized the present Govt., these innocents should have lost their lives because of the laziness of the current Govt in the Center.
