Bengaluru, Apr 8 (DHNS): The body of an eight-year-old girl, a Class three student who was reported missing since Monday, was found in a sump located on the premises of a government primary school in Pattandur Agrahara in Whitefield on Tuesday.
The police have booked the head master of the school on the charge of negligence leading to death under IPC Section 304 (A).
“It is suspected that girl drowned. But it cannot be confirmed till we receive the post-mortem report. A detailed inquiry has been ordered to find if the school management is responsible for the death,” Additional Commissioner of Police (East) P Harishekaran told Deccan Herald.
The police said that Sussana was a resident of Pattandur Agrahara.She was the only daughter of Swamy and Narasamma, a daily wage worker. They are said to be from Andhra Pradesh and had come down to the City a few years ago in search of a livelihood. According to the police, Sussana went to the school on Monday but did not return home. Around 7 pm, the worried parents started looking for her but the girl was not to be found anywhere.
They approached the other students from the school, who reside nearby and learnt that she was not seen in the school. The parents went to the school and it was locked.
Around 11 pm the parents lodged a missing complaint with the Whitefield police station. On Tuesday around 12 noon, the staff of the school opened the sump to check the water level and saw Sussana’s body.
They alerted the senior officials at the school and the police shifted the body for post-mortem and informed her parents, said the police.
School staff blamed
The school staff told police that they would open the sump in the afternoon to check the water level and close it in the evening while every one goes home. Sussana might have accidentally fallen into the sump while she was playing.
Meanwhile, the enraged parents accused the school staff of not taking care of their kid and the death was due to their negligence, police said.
Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammed Mohsin said that the BEO visited the school and will be compiling a report on the incident.
