Mangaluru, Apr 8: In a tragic incident, a young pregnant woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her house in Ambalamogaru, Baredadka under Konaje police station limits here on Wednesday April 8.

The deceased has been identified as Priya (21), wife of Vignesh.

Priya and Vignesh, both coolie workers and originally from Tamil Nadu, had fallen in love and got married about two years ago.

For the past one-and-a-half-years, the couple had been staying at Ambalamogaru. Police sources said that their families were unhappy about the marriage and hence the couple decided to leave Tamil Nadu.

It is learnt that on Wednesday, Priya was found hanging at her house. Strangely, the other end of the sari with which she was found hanging was also tied into a noose next to Priya's. It is suspected that her husband might have pretended to commit suicide in order to push her into doing the same. 

Priya was nine months pregnant when she took the extreme step and had only 10 more days for her due date, sources said. 

It is learnt that they were staying in a rented house, and Vignesh had failed to pay the rents for the last two months.

Vignesh went missing soon after the incident and the police are searching for him.

Konaje police have registered a case.
