UAE jets strike Houthi positions in Yemen

Abu Dhabi, April 9 (IANS/WAM): Fighter jets of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continued striking Houthi targets in Yemen as part of the Operation Decisive Storm launched by the Arab coalition last month in Yemen.

The strikes targeted radar positions, rocket launchers, weapons depots and surface-to-air missile (SAM) positions. All fighter jets returned to their bases safely after conducting the raids.

Fighter jets of the Arab coalition have struck Houthi positions in Yemen in response to a request from President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi for military intervention to protect the Yemeni people and their legitimate government.

Yemen has been mired in deep political conflict since 2011. The situation worsened when Shia Houthi rebels seized power earlier this year, and Hadi fled to Aden.

Saudi Arabia and fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states launched airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen on March 26.
