Regional handlooms textile exhibition begins


New Delhi, April 9 (IANS): Hand-painted pattachitra-based textiles, tribal kotpad weaves, jamdani and chanderi sarees, hand-knit crochet garments, and an array of embroideries are on display at an exhibition here that began on Thursday.

The third edition of Dastkar's Summer Weaves also features textile technique demonstration to demonstrate how a length of cloth evolves from fibre spun into yarn which the weaver combines one thread at a time to form the beautiful textile.

The 12-day event at Nature Bazaar, Andheria Modh in south Delhi, will also showcase intricate embroideries like sujini, ari, kantha, phulkari and chikankari from different regions of India.

Apart from this, there are also folk performances lined up to showcase the cultural potpourri that is India.
