Congress opposing land bill for political gain: Jaitely

Bhopal, April 9 (IANS): The BJP-led government has brought the land bill for the benefit of farmers, but the Congress was opposing it for its own political gain, Finance Minister Arun Jaitely said here on Thursday.

The minister was here to inaugurate the two-day meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party's state working committee.

Quoting B.R. Ambedkar, who said there will be development if industries were set up, Jaitely said the BJP-led government built houses for the poor, and works for the development of the industries so that even children of middle-class families become businessmen.

Jaitely said the government brought the land bill so that farmers benefit from it, but the Congress was opposing it for its own gain.

He said the political scenario has changed in India, and those involved in caste-based or dynastic politics were left behind in the 2014 general elections.
