SIT arrests Anand Singh for supplying iron ore without licence

Bengaluru, Apr 10 (DHNS): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Lokayukta police, which is investigating illegal mining cases in the State, on Thursday arrested Anand Singh, Vijayanagar MLA and owner of SB Minerals, on charges of supplying 17,086.27 metric tonnes of iron ore to an exporter without any valid licence.

According to a press release from the Lokayukta, Singh had supplied the iron ore from his mining company to Muneer Enterprises and Exporters “without permission/ legal sanction, or for that matter any valid licence.”

Around 2.30 pm on Thursday, a team headed by Inspector General of Police K S R Charan Reddy of the SIT arrested Singh. The arrest was made in connection with a case registered on October 20, 2014.

The Lokayukta Special Court on Thursday granted conditional bail to Kudligi MLA B Nagendra, who was recently arrested by the SIT in connection with the Belekeri iron ore export scam. The court has ordered Nagendra to surrender his passport in the court and to appear before the investigating officer twice a month. Nagendra was arrested on March 20.

Incidentally, Singh and Nagendra, both MLAs from Ballari district, were earlier arrested in an iron ore export scam and were lodged in the Bangalore Central Prisons at Parappana Agrahara.

They were released on bail a couple of months ago.
