Udupi, Apr 10: “To repay the debt of businessmen, the union government is trying to acquire the land of farmers and distribute it to businessmen such as Adani, Ambani and others. But Congress will not allow their plans to succeed and protest with all its might,” said urban development and district in charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake.

Sorake was addressing the protest held by Kaup block Congress committee in Kaup market opposing Land Acquisition bill on Wednesday April 9.

“NDA government is struggling to bring the law which has been discarded by UPA government. Let us all fight against it in unity and give a befitting reply to the attempts of PM Narendra Modi and company”, he further said.

AICC chief secretary and former union minister, Oscar Fernandes said, “The law for giving away land of the farmers to private businessmen is not found anywhere in the world. Congress party has been fighting for the poor since many decades. This is a question of life and death for the poor and the union government should give up the bill immediately.”

Addressing the protesters, former MLA Gopala Bhandary said, “This is not only an attempt to snatch the livelihood of the farmers but also their right to live. With the Land Acquisition bill, BJP party men who have got title deeds under the rule of one who 'ploughs the land is the owner of the land', are also put to hardship.”

KPCC secretary M A Gafoor, Kaup north block Congress president Sudheer Hegde, Blossom Fernandes, party leaders Ashok Kumar Kodavooru, M P Moidinabba, Kaup Diwakar Shetty, Amrith Shenoy, Keshava Kotian, Y Sukumar, Ignatius D’ Souza, Aida Gibba D’Souza, Harish Kini, Shashidhar Shetty, Sarasu D Bangera, Vinay Ballal, Rajesh Rao and others were also present for the protest.

Kaup south Congress committee president Navinchandra J Shetty welcomed. State Youth Congress secretary Abdul Azeez proposed vote of thanks.

I counted the number of people in the protest. There are 173 people altogether. Out of them 10% may be unrelated to this protest. Massive means may be around 150 people.

I think this is very sensitive issue. There ares so many, so many government dry lands across India. Why they need this act? Bcs the private people, with their struggle developed some area and government want it. Why not use dry government lands for industrialization purpose in dry areas. You know what we grow at South Canana attached to Udupi & Mangalore. Urdu, Hesaru, Til, Southe, Badane, Tomato, Kudu, Bende, Coconut, Cashew, Pineapple, Areca etc.etc... Do you know the market values of these. Its huge. You cant just Compensate this with money. And moreover all South Cana Industry doesn't associate with its people and there are no importance given to them.

Union Govt land acquisition bill and Maharashtra BJP Govt Beep ban is going to be death knell to farmers.
Farmers won't be able to refuse acquisition of their land in the pretext of infra development. There will be concrete jungle everywhere.
Due to Beep ban, farmers Can't sell the cattle for inability to keep them for lack of space, cost of fodder and water scarcity. Their sources of income and livelihood is severely affected. Leather industry is affected.
Beasts, crows and vultures eating dead cattle will thrive.
If animal cruelty is the reason, how as per nature, meat eating animals to survive? Big Fish will survive?
    Shouldn't go against natural justice.
