HC reserves order on plea to cancel BSP MP's bail

New Delhi, April 10 (IANS): The Delhi High Court on Friday reserved its order on a plea filed by Delhi Police seeking cancellation of bail granted to BSP MP Dhananjay Singh.

Dhananjay Singh was accused of destroying evidence to shield his wife Jagriti, who was arrested for torturing her maid leading to her death.

Justice Manmohan Singh reserved the order after counsels of Delhi Police and Singh concluded their arguments.

The police had moved the high court for Dhananjay Singh's bail cancellation alleging that he had violated the bail conditions imposed by the trial court. They claimed that the accused had tried to influence the witnesses in the case, who are under police protection.

Dhananjay Singh, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP from Jaunpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh, was charge sheeted along with his wife for various offences, including destroying evidence and abetting murder and attempt to murder.

Dhananjay Singh was granted interim bail on October 30, 2014.

The BSP leader and his wife, a dental surgeon in a government hospital here, were arrested in November 2013.
