AAP MLAs oppose electricity tariff hike petitions

New Delhi, April 10 (IANS): A total of 15 AAP legislators have objected to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) over electricity tariff revision petitions for 2015-16 by private power distribution companies (discoms), the party said on Friday.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs strongly objected to any tariff hike, as demanded by the discoms, and requested, on the other hand, that DERC should reject the petitions and order reduction in electricity tariffs, the party said in a statement.

"Discoms are misleading the public citing regulations as the main reason for their default payments. Inefficiency of discoms cannot be allowed to burden the public," the statement cited the legislators as having said in their written objection to the DERC.

The MLAs said the DERC should order discoms to immediately reduce the electricity tariffs for domestic consumers.
