Punjab minister's check finds poor facilities for players

Chandigarh, April 10 (IANS): Poor facilities and complete apathy of officials is what Punjab Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema experienced on Friday evening when he made a surprise visit to check residential arrangements for players who have assembled in Fatehgarh Sahib for state-level primary school games.

Cheema, who inaugurated the games earlier in the day, made a surprise visit to the complex where the players were put up.

After his visit, Cheema expressed "strong discontentment" over the poor arrangements made for the boarding and lodging of participants who have come from all parts of Punjab.

Arriving at the premises of the Mata Gujri Senior Secondary School and Mata Gujru Sara, he checked the rooms of the players and interacted with them to enquire about the facilities being provided to them.

Highly peeved over the poor facilities given to the budding players, Cheema warned the officers concerned to ensure best facilities for the players or to face action.

He said that he will make another visit to the place soon.

Fatehgarh Sahib is about 60 km from here.
