BJP MP raises 'ghar wapsi' at Bengaluru meet, says it harmed govt's image

Bengaluru, Apr 11 (HT): BJP MP and Dalit leader Udit Raj raised the ‘ghar wapsi’ conversion campaign at the BJP’s national executive meet in Bengaluru in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said it had sullied India’s image on the world stage.

BJP leaders who attended the meet said Raj questioned the BJP’s stand on the campaign, The Indian Express reported. Apart from Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and several senior leaders were present when Raj raised the issue.

The daily quoted its sources as saying that Raj had asked the Prime Minister how he would face global leaders when he meets them on his tours abroad. Raj mentioned he was in touch with Christian leaders and told the meeting that community leaders abroad, especially in the US and Europe, keep “close track” of developments in India and would “pressure” their leadership which, in turn, could affect ties.

“He spoke passionately that the Christian community in the country is feeling insecure and the international community is concerned about the toxic atmosphere created by the ‘ghar wapsi’ campaign. He said the BJP, in its political resolution, should send a strong message against it,” an unnamed BJP leader was quoted as saying.

Raj, who is national chairman of the All India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations, confirmed he had raised the matter and said his speech had initiated a “debate” on the issue at the meeting.

"I raised the issue because the opposition is spreading the word that minorities are unsafe under the BJP government and that we are against minorities. Time and again, they have raised it and the image of the country and the government has been hit by the campaign,” he said.

“Both the Prime Minister and (Union minister) M Venkaiah Naidu have already rejected this. I said as a responsible party, the BJP should send this message that we are detached from this.”

Replying to the debate, Naidu said many alleged attacks on minorities were “simple criminal acts” and it was the opposition that had created the impression that these were communal attacks.

Referring to the gang-rape of a 72-year-old nun in West Bengal and attacks on churches in Delhi, Naidu said such incidents were committed by anti-social elements and there was no communal angle to them.

“He urged the party to counter the campaign and protect the image of the government. Naidu also warned party leaders against making controversial statements,” said another BJP leader who did not want to be named.

I totally disagree with forced conversion, as it is against the values of civilised society. Therefore we should understand forced conversion and free will conversion. Society needs to grow to leave personal decision of a person based on their convictions to that person. Why third parties gets involves in personal matter and create social disharmony! Is it not because of self interest/selfish motives of some people /organizations to meet their selfish ends?

As per my understanding , God did not create any religion He seeks relation with his creation . If any person gets that enlightenment through the preaching acceptable to them why third person or organization mingle with their personal affairs. If our people do not want to respect others personal decisions and co-exist it clearly indicates we need to grow…

Mr. Bhat: Indeed, you are telling one side of the story which is very true.

Religion has created more bloodshed than anything else. The bloodshed and mass murder instigated through the religion due to the fight in between Muslim-Christian in Africa,
Hindu-Muslim in India especially at the time independence, killing in between the Protestant and Catholics in Ireland a few years back, Muslims killing each other etc are fundamentally rooted in the religious radical spirit.

When we see the list of non-religious personalities of history like Idi Amin killed 80000-500000,
Pot Pol of Cambodia 1 million, Hitler 6 million Jews alone, Stalin 20 million in 29 years thus the list is a long list.

Buddhism has no God, but a philosophy of non-violence. Even that philosophy can create some change in the outlook of life.

If you have a ruthless and greedy neighbor, he will be looking after your property and materials things, so will be looking to grab them if possible. In Buddhism, five rules of happiness is taught.

    Free your heart from hatred.
    Free your mind from worries.
    Live your life simply.
    Give more to others.
    Expect less from others.

How, our life can radically changed to that outlook without a total transformation of heart?

Mosab Hassan Yousef is the son of one of the leading founders of the Hamas movement Mosab was groomed to be the leader of the Hamas movement. He was so delighted to kill and torture if he happens to meet a Jew. Please go through the internet "google" search engine and read his story, how JESUS CHRIST changed his life and he is hugging the Jews. That is called the ' born again experience". GOD IS LOVE. The message of the cross is not a mere noble philosophy, but that person born in a Manger, crucified and resurrected from the grave who is a contemporary can change lives radically. JESUS is not the monopoly of the Christianity or the exclusive GOD of the western and American continent, HE IS THE LORD OF THE WHOLE WORLD.

Comment only on the subject. Don't try to repeat your foolish comments about conversion issues again & again & try to mislead the readers. It is only low thinking people like U r bothered about conversion issues. Do U know how many inter caste marriages r taking place all over India on daily basis. Can U tell us how many conversions r taking place now .Can U explain to us how many young & old people go to their respective religious temples to pray at least once a month if not on weekly basis. I am living in a complex of 800 flats. Most of the youngster never visit their temples & not at all bothered about religion issues . Just don't give foolish comments for the sake of commenting in Daiji world.& wasting your valuable time DW readers r much more intelligent than U r. Visit some slums & help them to come out of their miseries. There r 30 Crore people in India who go to bed without proper meal a day & water to drink.Talk about them & give your comments how to solve them.

Religion is the main problem all over the world. Convention divides people. Anywhere,as the minority base
becomes stronger there will be always friction and it is like Fire. You can see, what happened in Indonesia. This is just an example. Freedom to convert sounds good but same time it hurts many people. " One religion one nation" always prospers. Divide we fall.

And if you name the right anti-social elements can you nab them and punish them?, if not you and your government is inefficient and incapable of running a good government. Your government rightly opted for Christmas Day and the whole of Easter Day holidays for good governance day. I wish and pray that happens so that the born Christ and the risen Christ wil enlighten your government with wisdom to run a people friendly government. May Christ's peace be with you.

so is forced conversion!...let us stop all these activities! it harms social harmony! if a person really wishes to convert let him go to a magistrate and give it in writing, why he wishes to convert, which religion and then let us give it a legal sanctity!..

if a dalit hates the status of being dalit and wishes to convert to Christianity, let him goto magistrate and give up his Dalit status and get a tag of christian, a father will come and take him and baptise and a new name will be given! fair enough? Once he does that, no option for him to ghar wapsi! and no reservations either, bcecause he has chosen a casteless society with mental peace! how is the idea? these missionaries, evangelists, pastors and soul harvesters are pumping money and ruining it! hence they are unwelcome in Middleeast too!

BJP is an off shoot of RSS,a fascist organisation.
BJP is existing because of the support of RSS and sundry Dal and Senas.
BJP garners its votes by only minority bashing and hatred.
But the problem is US and Europe will watch these people closely and put them in their place.Modi and other BJP leaders know that they have to go with begging bowl to other rich nations which are predominently christian.
So attacking minorities specially Christians is at BJPs own peril.
