Shiv Sena leader shot at in Punjab town


Gurdaspur (Punjab), April 12 (IANS): A Shiv Sena leader was shot at by an unidentified assailant while he was taking a walk in a secured area in Punjab's Gurdaspur town on Sunday morning.

Shiv Sena leader Harvinder Soni was rushed in a critical condition to a nearby hospital, from where he was referred to a hospital in Amritsar.

Soni was fired upon by the assailant from a close range as he was walking. His bodyguard was standing at a distance when the attack took place.

Eyewitnesses said the assailant raised pro-Khalistan slogans after shooting and escaped.

The incident took place not far from the residence of the Gurdaspur deputy commissioner. The whole area has reasonable security.

Gurdaspur town is about 225 km from Chandigarh.
