Snag caused by rain hits power generation at RTPS


Bengaluru, Apr 12 (DHNS): Saturday’s strong winds rains in the State had an impact on the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS), as the units 4, 5 and 6 tripped. Repair works are on to restore the power generation.

Venugopal, the managing director of RTPS, said that the units may be restored by night.
It rained for nearly two hours in Raichur city. It started raining heavily at 6.15 pm, leading to waterlogging on several roads.

Traffic was thrown out of gear as a result. Rainwater overflowed on to the roads due to the clogging of the stormwater drains. There were reports of rain from other taluks in the district as well.

Rain accompanied by gusty winds disturbed normal life in Kalaburagi for the second consecutive day on Saturday. Most parts of the city plunged into darkness as trees and electrical poles that were uprooted snapped power lines.

Rain lashed Kushalnagar in Kodagu district for more than half an hour. The showers brought relief from the scorching sun. The sudden rain caused inconvenience to street vendors. No damages have been reported.

Showers on Friday night brought down the temperatures in various parts of Arsikere taluk, including Arsikere town.

Congested stormwater drains caused rainwater to flow on to the roads in the town. The showers brought smiles on the faces of farmers in the taluk. Coconut growers heaved a sigh of relief as the dipping water table had caused concern among them.
