President greets people on Baisakhi, Rongali Bihu


New Delhi, April 13 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday greeted people on the occasion of Baisakhi and Rangoli Bihu festivals.

In a message, the President read: "On the joyous occasion of Vaisakhi, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens, especially to those who are engaged in cultivation and farming."

"May this celebration of nature's bounty inspire us to strengthen our contribution to the nation's prosperity and remind us of the invaluable service rendered to the nation by our farmers and agricultural labourers," he added.

He also wished people on the eve of Rongali Bihu, Vishu, Puthandu Pirappu and Naba Barsha festivals which are to be celebrated on April 14-15.

"On the auspicious occasion of Vishu, Rongali Bihu, Puthandu Pirappu and Naba Barsha, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens."

"May these festivals heralding the New Year strengthen the pluralistic heritage of our nation and bring with them hope and optimism for the future. May they inspire us to work for the peace, progress and prosperity of our nation," he said.

The president said that these festivals celebrated in different parts of the country highlight the underlying unity of rich and diverse culture of the nation.
