Germanwings memorial held in Barcelona

Barcelona, April 13 (IANS): Spain's foreign minister was joined by his French and German counterparts on Monday for a memorial to the victims of the Germanwings flight 4U9525 that crashed on March 24 in the southern French Alps, killing all 150 onboard.

The memorial was held at Barcelona’s El Prat airport, from where the ill-fated flight took off for Dusseldorf in Germany, crashing into the French Alps, The Local news portal reported.

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Garcia-Margalló was joined by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walker Steinmeier to observe a minute's silence at the unveiling of a memorial to the victims of the Germanwings disaster.

The three foreign ministers laid a wreath, before observing a minute's silence.

The majority of the victims of the March 24 crash were of German and Spanish nationalities.

All 150 passengers and crew were killed when co-pilot Andreas Lubitz deliberately flew the plane into the southern French Alps, locking the commander out of the plane's cockpit.
