Bengal BJP to go to court over Mamata's paintings

Kolkata, April 13 (IANS): The BJP's West Bengal unit on Monday announced it will move court over the "contradicting statements" given by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the valuation of her paintings.

"The people of West Bengal are getting confused by the varied figures quoted by Mamata Banerjee... Yesterday (on Sunday) she claimed a single brush stroke by her could fetch Rs.10 lakh. I wonder if any such artist was ever born," state unit president Rahul Sinha told media persons.

He alleged Banerjee is making "contradictory statements" regarding the sale of her paintings to raise funds for her Trinamool Congress and said his party will "go to the court to seek justice".

He said she had given two different values of her paintings sold to raise party funds during her recent campaign for the coming civic polls.

"Once she said her paintings have totally collected Rs.2 crore. And at another time the sum that she quoted was Rs.9 crore," he said.
