MANUU students protest against prisoners' killing

Hyderabad, April 13 (IANS): Students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) on Monday staged a protest against the staged killing of five undertrial prisoners in Telangana.

The students union organized the protest on the university campus here. The protestors shouted slogans against the failure of the administration in handling the cases of the accused who were being tried in a court of law.

Aqib Nazer, vice president, MANUU students union demanded immediate probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Police gunned down five undertrial prisoners at Aler in Nalgonda district on April 7 while bringing them to Hyderabad from Warangal Central Jail. They claimed they opened fire when the undertrials, facing terror charges, tried to snatch weapons and flee.

The families of the undertrials and human rights groups alleged that it was a "staged-managed" killing and accused police of murdering them in cold blood.
