Bengaluru: Anand Singh resigns as MLA from jail

Bengaluru, Apr 14 (DHNS): BJP MLA and former minister Anand Singh, who is presently in central jail, following his arrest by the Special Investigative Team (SIT) of the Lokayukta is understood to have resigned from the membership of the Legislative Assembly.

Sources close to Singh said the 49-year-old legislator from Vijayanagar in Ballari district, submitted his resignation letter to the jail authorities (DIG-prisons) with a request that it be despatched to Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa.

Singh was recently arrested by the SIT team led by IGP Charan Reddy on charges of illegally transporting iron ore. This was the second time the MLA was being arrested in connection with illegal mining. The CBI had arrested Singh in November 2013 on charges of illegally exporting iron ore from Bellikere port.

Sources said Singh has not cited any reasons in his resignation letter. At the same time in another letter to party President Pralhad Joshi, Singh stated that due to the cases against him and frequent court hearings, he was not able to focus on his constituency and do justice to the people.

Speaker Thimmappa was in Udupi on a private visit. Officials in the Speaker’s office said they had not received any resignation letter.

    Dear readers,

Perhaps India is the only country in the world even after candidate declaring criminal status in an written affidavit still contest an election and represent people.

Thanks to autonomous 'Election commission of India' which elected highest number of criminals in 16 Lok sabha only to get 'clean chit' by clinching to power.

    Minimum government,maximum criminals.

    'Incredible India'.

A graceful act which upholds the dignity of the legislature. Good decision. The legislature should not be represented by people having serious blemish on their reputation. Congratulations on your decision. I hope the rest of his tribe in prisons will follow suit.

Our rules are ridiculous not only for the reason you mentioned, but also no age bar, no minimum education qualification, the number games etc etc. These rules time and again ensures that only those with muscle and money power and thugs/rowdy and criminal characters will be in the field. Rotten and crap system.

......and 'smile'anand gowda was seeking forgiveness the other day.

BJP itself is a mistake...just look at how bjp fooled 31% Indians in the name of 'acche din' and in the due process have dumped 97 criminal MP's in the parliament.

people like Anand Singh are a true reflection of BJP's low calibre politicians.

    Raj,

I suppose you have pointed the assam thing in your comment because i think you believe that what i comment was because this MLA was of BJP and the assam one is of congress. I dont give damn about which party it is. The politics of the whole country is a disgrace. How we cant get good job without qualification and with criminal record, the same logic should applied by us when voting.

Anand Sigh will be released soon because .....How Reddy got out?How other political criminals got out? They Reddys-A.Singh and associates virtually created revenue department of their own and created Fake Govt tax receipts in the check point!!!Justice Santhosh Hegde confiscated loads of such fake receipts from their kingdom!!Belikeri fort virtually under the kingdom and with out proper document mines were exported to enemy country like PAK-CHINA!!!!Our system was so weak that during Yeddy time everything was under criminals hand.

Coming to resignation BJP might advised him to resign to avoid onslaught of Congress party.
