Kundapur, Apr 14: A man allegedly committed suicide Kodlady here on Monday April 13, after launching a murderous attack on his mother.

The deceased, identified as Kushal Shetty (52), reportedly attacked his mother Muttamma Shetty (75), before committing suicide. Muttamma who sustained serious injuries has been admitted to a hospital.

Kushal Shetty was staying with his mother at Meldasanamane in Kodlady. It is said that he used to get drunk frequently and pick fights with his mother over property issue. On Monday April 13 during day time, when his mother was in the kitchen, he barged in with a machete and attacked her.

Even as Muttamma suffered heavy loss of blood and was writhing in pain, she managed to call her daughter Saroja who lives in Bengaluru and told her of the incident. Saroja immediately call her relatives in Kodlady, who rushed to the spot. They saw Muttamma lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries on her arms and feet. She was rushed to a private hospital in Kundapur.

Meanwhile, Muttamma's other son Shivaram Shetty informed the Shankaranarayana police. When the police came to the house to investigate later in the evening, they found that Kushal had committed suicide by consuming poison. His body was shifted to Kundapur government hospital for post-mortem.

Kushal had separated from his wife and two children 15 years ago and since then was living with his mother.

Shankaranarayana police have registered the case.
