Great leaders beyond one family, political party: BJP

New Delhi, April 14 (IANS): The BJP on Tuesday said that great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Vallabhbhai Patel and B.R.Ambedkar cannot be the "property of a family or a political party".

"Great leaders like these are not a property of a family or a political party...their vision is for the nation and the humanity," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told IANS.

To a query why various political parties were in competition for the legacy of Ambedkar, the BJP leader said there should not be any competition to "own" these personalities as they belong to the entire nation.

He also criticised the Congress for "revolving around one family".

"Due importance should be given to all great leaders of the country," Patra added.
