Six militants killed in Pakistan airstrike

Islamabad, April 14 (IANS): At least six terrorists were killed in an overnight military airstrike in the Orakzai tribal area in Pakistan, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Pakistani gunship helicopters attacked militants in Saifal Darra and Shakar Tangi areas in Hangu district, Samaa TV reported on Tuesday.

The security forces destroyed at least three hideouts of the extremists.

The identities of the militants killed have not yet been revealed, according to Xinhua news agency.

The airstrike was launched on the basis of a tip-off about the presence of high value targets in the area, Pakistani army sources were quoted as saying.

The offensive was launched in retaliation for a recent attack by the militants on a military convoy that killed four soldiers in the North Waziristan agency.
