Activists continue protest over dam water level in Madhya Pradesh

Khandwa (MP), April 15 (IANS): The protest against raising the water level in the Omkareshar dam continued on Wednesday in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district, with the condition of the protesters' feet worsening after being in water for five days.

The state government has raised the water level in the dam from 189 metres to 191 metres, leading to the threat of inundation of farmers' fields.

A total of 26 villagers and activists of the Narmada Bachao movement launched the protest on April 11 in Ghogal village against the government's move to raise the water level.

The protesters say that the government has raised the level without paying the money fixed as per the rehabilitation policy and by the supreme court.

The protest will continue till the affected people get justice, said Alok Agarwal of the Narmada Bachao Andolan who is also among the protesters.
