Mangaluru: Shiradi stretch of highway 75 to reopen for traffic on June 1

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 16: It is reliably learnt that the officials and various departments and Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner have decided to reopen national highway between the city and Bengaluru, which is presently blocked at Shiradi stretch for undertaking repairs and renovation work there, on June 1.

Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, speaking to reporters at Subrahmanya on Wednesday April 15, confirmed that works on the first phase of ghat section would come to an end by May 31, and that the road will be reopened on June 1. He added that the road will be opened as soon as the work on first phase is concluded.

The first phase of road works covering 13 km between Heggadde to Kempuhole will be completed by May 15. About two more weeks will be required to prepare the entire stretch for smooth movement of vehicles. Therefore, the road can be expected to be opened for vehicular traffic from June 1, said executive engineer in National Highways department, Nataraj. He also said that two participants have evinced interest in the second phase of work for which rebidding had been ordered, and that work order will be issued once the same is approved by the central government.

Once the Shiradi ghat road is opened, the department will have to conduct repairs at Charmadi ghat road on a war footing, where several drains had been closed to widen the road to enable the road to handle increased traffic caused by diverted vehicles. If this is not done, the road may suffer heavily during monsoon season, it is felt.

As per the government's estimate, the repaired stretch of the highway at Shiradi will withstand traffic for the next 30 years.

Rectifying the road was just an eyewash, the main reason is nothing but Yattinahole project. Well the ministers are smart and they know how to get things done.

shiradi road repair is a big drama by itself.the money spent on that road right from the beginning till date could have materialized a bullet train on that stretch.
we should bundle up all the politicians in gunny bags and them over the cliff of this ghat, then i think we may get better roads.

    Simply put -
I'll wait until the traffic starts moving again on that road instead of believing these periodical statements by these Ministers etc.
Even the Engineers themselves are not sure when.... then how these people in higher position can say\confirm re-opening?
Instead just say "work is progressing well and with in a couple of years work on the road may be completed"!!!
Above is pointed out as none of Government projects have been completed on stipulated time and the delays are over one year on the smallest project to over 7 and above for various larger projects where every Minister of various government that come and go will benefit due to escalation of cost from the start-up cost.

From the images : it is anything but a Road...like some Cowdung smear..
Can our Engineers...designers.. architects .. build clean roads well planned ..designed..built as per international specs/standards.
take cross section of the road .it should have sub base: .. and built up with Jalli: and topped with Concrete as per proper ration of mixes.. and not mixed with
    Ash...
    Roads have no GRADIENT: SYMMETRY:
The top wearing coarse has to be well stabilized... rolled...
No road markings.. dividers: stop signs: any road signs..
    no lightnings:
no walking path: no drain storms for water..
    No erosion protectors..
    no Zebra crossing /pedestrian crossings.
what is the meaning of a safe
    road..
    what about the Ambulance/police/?
    Nothing ...
who is bothered? who is interested..
    All jugaad.. MENTALITY.

Request Daiji to publish pictures of this road at the end of June2015!. I strongly believe this time authorities and contractor will blame El-Nino affect for the spoiling of the road!. They will also say that they had made the road monsoon proof but not El-Nino proof and hence they are not to be blamed!

Rain will start in Shiradi as well as Charmadi Ghat areas by last week of May. So, if Shiradi is opened on 1st June then atleast for one week Charmadi will face chaos due to flooding of water on the road as all the drainages in Charmadi have been closed to widen the road in January this year.
So, why not speed up the work of Shiradi and open it before 25th May?

Road and Rail network and connectivity should be improved to:
    i. reduce dependence on imported crude
    ii. provide employment,
iii. Increase market for agricultural produce.
    iv. improve industrial production activity
    v. Save Time
