Udupi, Apr 16: In a blow for Udupi Janata Dal (Secular) party members, district JD(S) president Deviprasad Shetty resigned from his post on Thursday, April 16.

Deviprasad Shetty has submitted his resignation letter to H D Deve Gowda, national president of JD(S), it is learnt.

Speaking at the press meet in Udupi Shetty said  "I have resigned willingly from the post. I have rendered service for 15 years as a district president in Udupi district. I want to thank all who have given us support and who have guided me in every step. I have no desire for any power and also I am not a saint in the political field. It is my own decision and no pressure has been put on me to give up this esteemed post. I did not get expected success in the party and the number of active members is coming down day by day. I may have failed to keep the things stable."

Shetty further said that, he experienced differences of opinion among party activists. He revealed that he was not resigning from his primary membership. "Public service and social justice are two important aspects of my political struggle. I fought for major issues like Padur-Thokur pipeline, land acquisition and protested against district authority," Shetty added.

"From now on I will remain as JD(S) member and will fight impartially for the betterment of public. I made Belapu panchayat a model village panchayat during my term. I have not planned anything about my political future," Shetty said.

Regarding the upcoming village panchayat elections, Shetty said that he has not thought about contesting for post of president of Belapu village panchayat.

Mr. Devi is an approachable person.
I strongly believe he is impartial.
He spent a lot of time with JD(S)which I believe is a waste. He is an active pro poor in Belapu Panchayat. Being a well wisher I wish him every success in his future career.

To remain as district unit president of a political party for 15 years is a big achievement. Mr Deviprasad Shetty has taken a right decision by stepping down. The fact that he is continuing in the party as a primary member speaks volumes about his loyalty to JDS. I welcome his decision.

Whether this is a important news for press people?
    What is JDS position DK/Udupi?
Who cares for Deve Gowda/Kumaraswamy in Udupi/DK?
Reason for DP Shetty's resignation as President of Udupi unit may be that his JDS became Waste Body Party (WBP) this week!

JDS may not be an important party in DK/UDUPI, Most of the ppl may not care for HDD and HDK here. It may not be a news for you, but of course its a NEWS for BELAPU and Udupi people who know Mr Deviprasad very well. First you go and learn, what developments he did for Belapu area. Then you start opening your mouth. Simply don't fill anything (for the sake of commenting) which comes in your mind here. Be responsible yaar... May god bless you and give light to you...

What good he has done for the party in the district ? he remains or resigns nothing makes difference, he was never in the picture at all, and many people must not have even known that he was the JDS Dist President.

    Absolutely true!!

Politicians are jumping fences only to make sure they can continue making money, when one opportunity dries up.

Good decision Devianna. In Udupi-Mangaluru District there are only two winning parties either Congress or BJP. JDS or any other political parties have no future at all in our district. Since you are a young & energetic person, you need a strong political platform to fight on behalf of the poor people. I appreciate your effort to make Belapu as a very developed village. My suggestion is please join Congress, as you have very good relationship with Mr.Sorake. I remembering always our school days we were studying in PPJC-Admar, your active involvement in Paniyoor Youvaka Mandala, taking part in Tulu dramas etc. Those days will never come back again. Good luck.

It is good news for JDS and party! i am sure he will find one more party to make more money ! Lokayutha need to asses his source of income and wealth he generated from public service over 15 years and bring in to public whether he is true public servant as he claim , so that we all proud of his work so far !
