Kundapur: Women hold mass protests demanding hanging of alleged rapist-killer

Kundapur, Apr 16: Women in Kundapur held mass protests on Thursday, April 16 alleging that two more men are involved in the rape and murder of Gopadi resident pregnant woman Indira. “They too should be arrested. An inquest should be held of the place of the incident. The suspects should be hanged. Women should be provided protection”, they demanded in the protests.

Several women's groups and citizens in Gopadi urged for detailed inquiry of the incident and stringent punishment for the suspects.

They urged that no lawyer should take the case of the suspect Prashanth as the defense lawyer. “The lawyers should stand for the security of women,” they said and submitted a memorandum to Kundapur Bar Association. They also submitted an appeal to Kundapur sub divisional officer Charulatha Somal and Tahsildar Gayatri Nayak. They said that stringent punishment to the suspects only can reduce crimes. They demanded justice and compensation to the family of the deceased.

The women then entered the Police station and submitted a memorandum to police circle inspector Diwakar. They urged arrests of other suspects stressing that the rumours that Prashanth is a mental patient are false. They also expressed apprehensions regarding three cars taking rounds around the house at Gopady on April 15.

The circle inspector assured that detailed investigation is in progress and the medical examination of the suspect are being conducted with advanced gadgets.

Taluk women's wing president Radhadas, fishermen federation state convener Kishore Kumar, BJP constituency president Rajesh Kaveri, Zilla panchayat member Ganapathi T Sriyan and different women's association leaders were present.

Gopady resident Indira was allegedly raped by Beejadi resident Prashanth Mogaveera and his accomplices in the guise of requesting for water and later killed. Her body had bite marks. Her face was smashed with a boulder apparently to prevent recognition.

In India special respect to woman, but, in words and to the books it is limited.Nobody care about woman security and safety. People only aware after incidents.
Make some strict rules, punishments, then only people would have fear.
We say our country bharath matha.
    But how safe bharatiya naari...
Only politicians use Bharath Matha in speeches for their benefits.

Not every woman gets raped. Rapes are common since we are all human beings and we make mistakes. Yes, if convicted, punishment is a must. But I don't like the idea of hanging/Capitol punishment. Every human has right to leave and it should not be exploited.

India is democratic country and it is constitutional right for every accused to appoint his lawyer to defend him in the court of law. Only evidences proves his guilty. Like all theives at first place plead not guilty and finally evidences against him proves he is guilty and punished. Jai hind

Only instant death punishment for the convicts in rape cases will solve the problems of rapes. I request the authorities to find out other culprits & just hand over them to the public who can only punish them & not the liers ( Lawyers, Police,Politicians). One can say let the public find the culprits & punish, if so what is the work of Policemen? Let the Central government ask all the states to "Just hang all the Convicted Rapists across the nation". At least give some good news to the Public especially women across nation or else there is no difference between X or Y Govt. At least this can be done.
Regarding Human rights, what about the rights of raped & murdered pregnant women?
It has become a fashion to say that those who rape are suffer from Mental disorder, it has been said during Late Sowjanya case too, kindly don't do this. Instead hang him instantly if he is the real culprit.
Lawyers should not take up the cases of any convicts in rape cases if they love their wife, sisters, Daughters.

Go mata is more important than human beings in India. So BD/VHP/RSS save only the life of cattles and bulls not mother and sisters who were looking for help.

Crimes against women are increasing because the Govt and Justice system has failed to punish the guilty persons. Rapists/killers aren't only walking around freely but enjoying high positions in the country.

Pls. don't takes things for granted before things get worst and don't let Mangalore become an other rape murder and crime city. If the police are strict and keep a track in every area and there will be fear in people. Please for the little money sake don't leave the culprit if they are not thought a lesson everyone have to suffer. We trust and depend the police and the people sitting on the chair whom we have voted and chosen pls. don't let the people down. "and stringent punishment for the suspects."
The above is quoted from the report. People are demanding stringent punishment to the suspects? How anyone can be punished only on suspicions? That is wrong. It should be the guilty culprits or the criminals that are to be punished. The decision about the guilty of suspects comes out only after the trial for that lawyers are required and appointing lawyers is a fundamental right. I guess people are being carried away by the mob mentality without any thought.

    This is a dangerous trend.
There is no doubt that the rapists should be punished with severest punishment under law.
But exerting undue pressure on police when they have already nabbed the culprit is not at all welcome. The police need to take the accused to the crime scene and take his statements which is crucial in convicting the accused. Here the people are stopping the police to do the job indirectly by threatening to lynch the victim.

Five star actistutes have send a very bad trend.
