Girl raped, nose chopped off by ex-fiance in Bihar

Patna, April 16 (IANS): A girl was raped and part of her nose chopped off by her former fiance after she refused to marry him in a village in Bihar's Siwan district, police said on Thursday.

The victim, in her early 20s, was alone at her home late Wednesday night when her former fiance Mohd. Azharuddin forcibly entered and asked her to agree to the marriage. When she refused, he raped her and later chopped off a part of her nose to prevent her getting married to anyone else, district police official Avakash Kumar said.

"It appears to be a case of revenge as the accused raped her after the victim refused to marry him. He chopped off a portion of her nose to teach her a lesson and disfigure her face," Kumar added.

The victim was admitted to the local hospital for treatment and a medical examination was also conducted on her.

According to local police, the victim's marriage was fixed with the accused last year. But later when her family members came to know that Azharuddin did not possess a good character, they called off the engagement with him.

"The victim told police officials that the accused was very angry after she refused to marry him a couple of months ago. After that she forgot about the incident without sensing that the accused was in search of revenge for her refusal," another police official said.

The incident took place when the victim's family members had gone to attend a function at a relative's house.

Police have lodged a case against Azharuddin and raided his residence, and other locations he used to frequent but he has been absconding after the incident.
