Judicial commission will strengthen democracy in Pakistan: Imran Khan

Islamabad, April 16 (IANS): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Thursday that the formation of a judicial commission to investigate alleged rigging in the 2013 general election will strengthen democracy, regardless of the outcome of its investigation, media reported.

The PTI chief was speaking to reporters shortly before he appeared before the commission on Thursday, Geo News reported.

"A total of 26 political parties and groups have approached the commission, which means that the PTI was not the only party (complaining of rigging)," he was quoted as saying.

"This is a bright day for Pakistan's democracy. This would not have happened if not for our protest for 126 days. Everything will be revealed now... people will know how their mandate is stolen," said Imran Khan.

"Whatever the outcome of the commission’s investigation, democracy will progress and strengthen Pakistan," he added.
