Beltangady, Apr 16: The death of a teenage girl in a fire at her house in Venur has taken a new twist.
Bhagyashree (18), daughter of Hosamane Ramanna Poojary and Shahikala, residents of Kukrabettu under Marodi gram panchayat limits died after fire engulfed her house on April 6.
At first, it was thought to be an accidental fire. However, a death note found reportedly written by Bhagyashree has given new twist to the case.
The death note was found on Thursday April 16 under the mattress when her room was being cleaned. In the note, she is said to have named Shivappa (49), a distant relative who stays in the same neighbourhood.
The Venur police had earlier questioned Shivappa, but let him go. On Thursday, he was detained again for further questioning.
A student of Alva's College, Moodbidri, she had come home for study holidays. The incident took place when she was alone at home.
