Puttur: Annual car festival of Lord Mahalingeshwara temple on Friday

Puttur, Apr 17: The annual car festival of Lord Mahalingeshwara temple here, which has been an integral part of the town's history, will be held on the night of Friday April 17 with the pomp, show, and religious solemnity it is associated with.

During the day, Utsava, Vasantha Katte Puja, and Darshana Bali are being held. After the Utsava at around 7.30 pm, the Lord's idol will be seated on the decorated chariot at about 9 pm.

The major attraction of the night will be the crackers show, famously known in the state by the name, 'Puttur Bedi'. This will be followed by pulling of the chariot through the car street. The Lord's idol will then be installed at Bangar Kayarkatte. After the idol returns to the temple, ceremonial send off to Ullalti Daivas, Bhoota Bali, and Shayana will be held in the temple.

Founder president of Jayakarnataka organization, N Muttappa Rai, who has been an important force force behind the annual car festival and temple development activities, will be inaugurating concreted car street today.
