Indonesian aircraft makes emergency landing after bomb scare

Jakarta, April 17 (IANS): An Indonesian flight made an emergency landing on Friday after the crew received a bomb threat, an official said.

The crew of the Batik Air flight received information from the air traffic control that a bomb was planted in the aircraft. The plane was flying from Ambon city in eastern Indonesia to Jakarta with 122 people on board, Indonesian transport ministry spokesman J.A. Barata said.

"The plane was diverted to the nearest Sultan Hassanudin airport in Makassar on the island of Sulawesi. After landing at the airport, the plane was isolated from other planes," the spokesman told Xinhua news agency.

However, no bomb was found despite intense checking of the aircraft by police personnel, he added.

Batik Air is a subsidiary of Indonesia's budget carrier Lion Air.
