Mangaluru: Rs 6 crore released for Tannirbavi-Sultan Battery suspension bridge

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Apr 17: MLA of Mangaluru south constituency J R Lobo has revealed that the public works department (PWD) of the state has released Rs 6 crore grant for the Tannirbavi-Sultan Battery suspension bridge.

"The work was stalled for years. I wanted to restart the work. The proposed footbridge measuring 410 metres in length and 10 feet in width was designed to hang at a height of 25 feet from the water level was planned but the work could not be executed due to want of funds," said J R Lobo.

The footbridge was planned in 2006 with an outlay of Rs 12 crore and only Rs 1 crore was released in 2008. The work which started in 2012 was supposed to be completed in December 2013, but got stalled eventually. J R Lobo tried his best to get the funds, but since the tourism department did not have such a big amount, the proposal was transferred to the PWD.

Now that Rs 6 crore has been released, the work on the footbridge will begin very soon and the remaining Rs 6 crore will be released in the second phase of the project, Lobo said.

The project will be completed within the next two years, he said.

A 400 meter footbridge between Tannir Bavi and Sultan Battery will be a scenic and beautiful link for people to move on foot and enjoy the scenic beauty. It will be a nice place for people to maintain their daily exercise, plus enjoy a nice drive upto Tunnir Bavi or Sultan Batttery.

Any progress of this kind will enhance the beauty of Mangalore and will also create a new and nice recreation for people.

There are so many ways to beautify Mangalore within the resources available. Our river fronts, our beaches and our coastline is indeed pretty that needs a face lift. Any progress in that direction will always help the tourism and also the comfort of the people. Nice lighting on the bridge will also beautify the place at night that could be made visible even from a distance.

We had not been to Saltan Battery from the days of our school time, hence on our next visit we shall make use of the foot bridge and enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of sugar cane at either ends.

A nice paid car parking at either or both ends of the bridge will also be helpful and will bring additional revenue for tourism.

    Hey Hitmann, Kuwait.
You are too optimistic about this. Even 2 years might prolong for 5 years. J.R Lobo is just precautions. He does not know when the funds will really reach. Cannot blame him. We should none the less blame his as to why he does not check as to why the Tourism dept transferred the project to the PWD due to lack of funds. The Tourism dept has a lot of funds but it goes in their own pockets. What has the Karnataka tourism dept. done so far. They use the funds for the ministers travels to all sort of places on tourism study. They take their families along and this costs money. So no funds left. Jai Hind. Jai J.R. Lobo

Our State Govt has funds only for Bangalore and Greater Blore. They think rest of the Cities are nothing.I have seen all the Budget News out of 100% 90% is for Bangalore only rest 10% are for 28 Districts. if this is the case then Hope Karnataka will surely be divided into 2 Just like Andra Pradesh and Telengana. If State Govt cannot develop Mlore then why we Need this State.

I am not a fool to praise Lobo for this .Please note that this project was started and envisaged by BSY led BJP govt and they immediatly sanctioned Rs 1crore .But unluckily your Congee govt did not make any payment to Yojaka Pvt Ltd the contractor for this .Lobo has just cotrected the mistake of congee govt.Hence I wanted to take a neutral position and praise govt so that many such works will be done foe our Mangalore

You should stop praising politicians for work being carried out. It is their duty and they are bound to do it. That is what they are elected for. There are several other important issues bothering citizens . Footpaths along the roads in the Mangalore city.
