Udupi, Apr 18: After a tipper truck carrying crushed stones hit a car at Yermal bridge near Padubidri on Friday April 17, two persons suffered serious injuries, while two others escaped with minor injuries.

The driver of the car and a boy seated on the front seat were the worst hit. Shreejit (11) from Barkur, and his uncle and car driver, Krishna Devadiga (61) from Suratkal Krishnapura fifth block, were admitted into a hospital in Mangaluru with grave injuries. Tanvi (8) and Vaishu (11), who were sitting in the back seat, sustained injuries that were not serious in nature.

Krishna Devadiga was coming to Suratkal after picking up Tanvi and Vasihu from Barkur, who happen to be the children of his relatives. When the car reached Yermal bridge, a tipper that came at high speed from the opposite direction, hit the car. The car came to a stop after taking a reverse turn because of the force of the accident. Although the all the injured were taken to local hospital in auto rickshaws, the hospital staff did not treat Shreejit and Krishna Devadiga in view of the gravity of their injuries.

Tipper driver abandoned his vehicle and fled from the scene. As both the tipper and car remained on the road long after the accident, vehicular traffic was badly affected. Padubidri police, who registered a case relating to the accident, later cleared the vehicles from the road.
