Udupi, Apr 19: Just three days after he quit as district president of JD(S), Deviprasad Shetty on Sunday April 19 quit JD(S) and joined Congress.

On April 16, though he quit from the district president's post, he had said he would continue in the JD(S) as a member. However, on Sunday he quit the party to join Congress.

Urban development minister and district incharge Vinay Kumar Sorake, block Congress president Naveenchandra Shetty and other party leaders welcomed him into the party in a simple ceremony held at the Congress office in Kaup.

Addressing the gathering, Deviprasad Shetty said, "This day is a turning point in my political career. I have accepted the core ideology and principles of the Congress party and I am very happy to enter its fold. I have joined Congress without placing any conditions or demands. I will work sincerely without causing any problems to the party leaders."

About leaving JD(S), he said, "I was not cheated or betrayed by the JD(S). Former Prime Minister and JD(S) chief Deve Gowda has special affection for me and it is with his blessings only that I have come forward to take this step."

Vinay Kumar Sorake said, "The Congress party is experiencing lack of leadership in some areas which is affecting the party's progress. Hence, as per the decision taken by the party, we need to taken in those who adhere to the party's ideology and follow secular principles. The Congress has initiated this work by welcoming Deviprasad Shetty into the party's fold. He has joined the party as the instructions of senior party leaders Oscar Fernandes, Gopal Poojary, Pratapchandra Shetty, chief minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC president Dr Parameshwar and others."

Congress leaders Diwakar Shetty, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Ignatius D'Souza, Deepak Yermal and many others were present.

Is the same person who got a honorary doctorate degree from Colombo Almatta University few months back!?. The thing is I have searched net and also checked with many people but till today I am unable to locate this university in Sri Lanka which does not know about people like Darmarshi Sri Veerendra Heggade but can search politicians like Deviprasad Shetty!. Also amazing thing is that this university awards doctorates in Malaysia without a banner of its name in the background!. Can anybody tell me where this university is there in Sri Lanka!?

    People,

Sorake is following Vasanth Salians footsteps....in 2018 he will become Vasanth Salian II...he is from Puttur and other than being an Udupi MP once after Oscar lost MP seat ,,, no roots in either in Udupi or Kaup...

Now Suresh Shetty Gurme leaving CONgress... loosing big time in last parlimentary elections...he (Sorake)wants some support from outside... so bringing in a person from JDS who was secretly supporting him for long time...

This guy Deviprasad Shetty was supporting Vinay Kumar sorake secretly since last more than 10 years...now doing it openly ,,, that's all...there is no net gain or loss to CONgress in this ...

Perhaps net gain to Devi when new projects are implemented in Belapu...

But during next assembly elections neither Devi or anybody else can make Sorake win in Kaup...mark my words...

    ...JH...

shame on him, same person invited one more wasted vasath sailan in to JDS during-2013 election , now same guy joined congress , total waste character.. cong made wrong decision and cheated congress voters . now he will loot more money from congress specially belapu government project , i am sure BJP kaup unit should monitor his activity closely and if any wrong doing bring in to public notice , next kaup MLA BJP will win with huge margin.

Hahahaha. After Devi joining the Congress, the most worried person is Lalaji Mendon. Devi is capable to bring at least 20,000 additional votes to the Congress in Kaup from his supporters and well wishers.
