Mangaluru: Real estate businessman Rafiq found dead in river

Mangaluru, Apr 19: A real estate businessman was found dead in Gurpur river at Maravoor near Bajpe here on Saturday April 18.

The deceased, Rafiq (60) was popularly known as Rafiq 313 because he had built a block of apartments in Kenjar in the name of 313 apartments. Rafiq was the president of Pera Juma Masjid and Pera Uroos committee. He is survived by wife and three children.

As per details, Rafiq had been to Pera mosque at around 1.30 pm on Saturday, April 18 to inspect the renovation work there. His driver Ashraf who dropped him, was asked to come at 3.30 pm to take him back.

When Ashraf went to the mosque at the specified time, Rafiq was not to be seen there. His mobile phone too was switched off. While search was being done to find Rafiq, news came that a body was floating in the nearby river. When the team went there, it was confirmed that the body was that of Rafiq,

It is not yet known whether it was a case of suicide or murder. The post mortem report is awaited. Sources said that minor bruises were found on his fingers and head.

Rafiq, who hailed from Madikeri, was known to be a religious man and a philanthropist. His sudden death has shocked many.

    Rafiq Sir was a very good person at heart. He never spoke harsh to any one. He was always helpful and kind hearted person. He was there to help everyone. I was shocked and cannot believe when I heard this unfortunate news of his death.

    Condolences to the family. I know this person as a family friend and he was a gem. He did not suicide or this is not regarding money guys. Grow up people. Have some shame. Be sensitive towards circumstances. When a person is dead you don't comment all the possibilities of death and talk negative about them or their "Paisa" as some people have commented. Heights. He was a generous pious man who had a severe heart attack while he was supervising construction work near the lake. This is what post mortem report says. Get the facts right before you open your mouths n spit out venom.
