Two boys drown in Gurgaon water tank

Gurgaon, April 19 (IANS): Two boys drowned here in a water tank belonging to the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) on Sunday afternoon, police said.

They were identified as Rishu, 10, and Raja, 16. They were residents of Saraswati Enclave.

Rishu and Raja were cousins whose family belonged to Patna in Bihar.

Both went to the HUDA-owned water tank near Basai village.

HUDA supplies water to its sectors and private colonies after treating it at the Basai plant.

"The boys went there for swimming. Rishu who did not know how to swim slipped into deep water and when Raja came forward to help his cousin, both drowned. We are searching for the bodies," a police officer said.

"Though HUDA has imposed a ban on using the water body for bathing or swimming purposes, many people flout the regulation," an official said.

In the last few years, many people, especially students have drowned in the water body.

Officers posted at the Rajendra Park police station are investigating the incident.
