Chinese president leaves for Pakistan visit


Beijing, April 20 (IANS): Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday left for a state visit to Pakistan, at the invitation of Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

President Xi will also visit Indonesdia where he will attend the Asian-African Summit and activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Xinhua news agency reported.

Xi is acoompanied by a delegation of top government officials and diplomats, including China's First Lady, Peng Liyuan.

According to sources, China and Pakistan are expected to sign a number of agreements and memorandum of understanding worth almost $50 billion, relating to key development projects in infrastructure, energy, and communication sectors under the ambit of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Xi will be conferred with the Pakistan's highest civilian award, the Nishan-e-Pakistan.
