Udupi, Apr 20: A fight between two brothers ended in the death of the elder one at Moodubettu under Malpe police station limits in the wee hours of Monday April 20.

Prakash

The deceased has been identifed as Prakash Acharya (32), a carpenter by profession. He was alleged killed by his younger brother Umesh Acharya (28), a driver.

It is said that Prakash was about to construct a house near their current residence at Moodubette. He was repeatedly pestering his brother Umesh and mother Indira to give him money to bear the construction costs, sources said. There used to be frequent fights in the family over this issue.

On Sunday April 19 night, Prakash again raised the issue and asked money from Umesh. This led to a fight between the brothers, and in a fit of rage, Umesh allegedly assaulted Prakash with a wooden stick.

Prakash who was bleeding profusely was given treatment at home by his mother Indira and wife Umashree. He then drank some juice and went to sleep.

A few hours later, the family noticed that Prakash had stopped breathing. He was immediately rushed to Ajjarkad hospital, where he was declared dead.

Meanwhile, on learning that his brother had died, Umesh went absconding.

Malpe police have registered a case.

It is because of over population and the resulting shortage of resources that such fights are occurring. When a man is denied even his basic rights such as food, clothing and shelter he would naturally be angry.
